SHARON HANN

In second grade (California) I was chosen for special art classes and I loved it! In Iowa I was told that art classes were for people that couldn’t do anything else, so when I attended college at the Northern University of Iowa I majored in Art Education. I taught in Iowa and became an elementary art supervisor for four years.

We moved to Albuquerque and I obtained a Masters in Art Education at the University of New Mexico and taught school. We had three children and after seven more years of teaching, we moved back to Iowa.

I taught children’s classes at Des Moines Art Center but also continued to take classes there for thirty years. I started the fine arts program for the Des Moines Area Community College and taught there for thirty years. I worked for the Cultural Center at the Iowa State Fair. I started “Art Attack” children’s art activities. As assistant to the director of the cultural center I helped with the art exhibits , exhibited art works there and demonstrated various crafts. I belonged to the Art Educators of Iowa and was on the board. I went to many National Art Education Conventions attending the last one here in Denver. I belonged to the Artist’s Gallery a cooperative of thirty Iowa artists where I had several shows and tried many different media.

Seven years ago I retired from teaching to baby sit grandchildren and to do so moved to Denver, where I joined the Denver Allied Arts Guild and the Park Hill Art Club. I have quit trying so many different media and am concentrating on painting.

My life long hobby is visiting Museums but there are still quite a few in the world I have not seen.
