Newsletter for October 2006
GENERAL MEETING: Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 9:30am at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 East Alameda Ave. Remember that we meet on the 3rd Saturday at 9:30am. Floy Walberg won the $5.00 and Carol Hann won the newsletter prize. This prize was donated by Mary Lou Rose (whose number was called first!).
Your furnished name tags should to be worn to each meeting because if you wear it and your signup number is called out by a guest you win $5! The Hello stick’em tags are only for guests!!!
The PROGRAM will be a critique by Victoria Kwasinski. - Remember one (1) unframed artwork per member of DAAG. No guest paintings can be included in this critique.
Review of last months program: was given by Paige Lyda and it was excellent. He is a retired policeman with 20 years as a sketch artist for the department. He still gets calls to get a description of the criminal from several witnesses. Some police departments rely on the computer program that is used for getting parts of facial expressions from witnesses. But the actual drawings, simple as they could be, are more accurate. So more and more agencies are using or going back to this method. DNA was first used (successfully) in 1984. One of the most important actions that such an artist uses is the interview with the victim(s) and/or witnesses. Paige passed around his drawing and the actual photograph of the criminal - amazingly accurate.
Workshop:

Fee: $25 for DAAG members and $30 for non-members
Abstracting the Landscape - in this workshop you will explore rendering the landscape using your own artistic voice. Incorporating a process of subtraction and simplification with a focus on color and composition. Victoria will demonstrate in oils but all mediums are welcome.(if you are working in acrylic or oils, please bring a canvas primed with red acrylic paint). Be sure to bring photo reference material and the supplies needed for your medium. All levels of experience are welcome. Be sure to bring a sack lunch.
A signup sheet will be passed around at the October meeting and we ask that you pay at signup to guarantee a spot in this workshop. In second half of October we will open it up to non-members. For those of you who cannot attend this October meeting but want to participate in this workshop, just call Joyce Madden at 303-771-2019 for your reservation or questions.
REMINDER - for those of you that have paintings at the Central Christian Church, they must be picked up on Friday, October 27th at 9:00am - any artwork left after breakdown of the show will become the property of Central Christian Church.

To set up a member page, update your page, or have new photos taken of your artwork call Joyce Madden at 303-771-2019 and make arrangements. Slides and/or photos can be sent directly to Karl and he will get them online. Be sure to include a short (5 or 6 lines) biographical note. A fee of $25.00 to each member will give that member a page of 6 paintings plus the bio. There are links to agencies, retail outlets (Meininger’s, etc), and organizations. Once your page is up and approved, your $25.00 is due. If you want to change one picture in your web site that is free, any more than that there is a flat fee of $25.00. Karl’s address is 2423 S. You need to get your updated resumés (form layouts are available) and photos of at least three (3) of your artwork to Joyce Madden and if you have something for the Historian book you can bring that along and give to Floy Walberg. Our History book is wonderful and if you haven’t taken a look thru it, please do.
REFRESHMENTS for this October 21st meeting will be furnished by Floy Walberg and Carmen Freeman. November 18 by Millie Wilner and LaVeryn Talmage. Carol Reeves is having her annual painters retreat at The Beavers in Winter Park. Dates are:

*can either paint indoors (in conference room) or outdoors (plein air)
Prices are: $175 for a single, private w/bathroom; $145 twin beds; $135 for a pullout couch in living room.
Includes three (3) dinners Thrs, Fri and Sat

Club Notes:
Anthony Ammerita is painting a mural (20 x 80 ft long) in Pueblo on the outside wall of a bar. He also has some paintings hanging in a local Middle Eastern grill/bar here in Denver.
Sally Moore is having wrist (carpal tunnel) surgery on October 17th
Tony McCrary is doing just great - home now, recovering.
Rachel Neubauer is now home recovering.
LaVeryn Talmage is now home recovering. She attended the DAAG September meeting.
Ann Blecha has badly sprained her ankle and hurt her back in a fall - she is in rehab recovering and resting.
Helen Colvert has moved to Taos, NM to be near her family.
Carmen Freeman sold handmade cards at the Gilpin County Art Show.
Dorothy Petet sold a painting recently and 10 packages of note cards.

November 18 - Judy Patti - Encaustic with member participation. With the supplies furnished, there will be a $4.00 charge to each member to cover those expenses. If you save some of the slick ads that come in the mail, they can be used in some of the Encaustic paintings
December 8- Christmas party at Marion Wright’s. More information later, but the Chinese Auction will be one of the features (besides the food).
