Welcome back to DAAG after a long, very hot summer! We will be starting our 47th year as an art guild!

GENERAL MEETING:  DAAG meets at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Avenue, on the third Saturday of every month at 9:30a.m., except July, August and December. Enter through the east door on Fairfax Street and come down the hall, and you’ll find us at the end of the hall in the big room. Please bring your friends to our meetings, and remember to wear your nametag! If your sign-in number is called and you are wearing your nametag, you will win $5.00.

NOTE TO NEW MEMBERS: Please give us your address and phone numbers at the September meeting. We need this information for the roster. This is a notice to all members: if you have not already done this, PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES!

SEPTEMBER PROGRAM: Victoria Kwasinski will give us a demonstration of a mixed-media painting. She is an excellent painter and well known for her usage of color.

JUNE PROGRAM: We had our traditional white elephant sale in June, and it was a success! It is always a surprise and a pleasure to see what our members bring in.

REFRESHMENTS: Sally Moore and Dick Lutz will bring refreshments to the September meeting, and Carmen Freeman will bring them in October. We need someone to help Carmen in October, so please volunteer. Thank you!

DRISCOLL ART SHOW AT D:U.: This show will take place Sunday, September 28th to Saturday, October 25th. Please bring in your paintings between 1:00 and 2:00 on September 28th. Pat Fostvedt will be the juror, and she will jury from 2:00 to 3:00. Ribbons will be given out. We will call you if any paintings are rejected. We will take the show down on Saturday, October 25th between 12:00 and 1:00.

The Driscoll Student Center is on the northeast corner of Evans and Race where the bridge crosses Evans. Visitor parking is available on the west side of the building at the northeast corner of Evans and Race. Parking is $1.00 per hour and the pay station is located at the north end of the lot. Take the paved walkway from the north east corner of the parking lot along the north side of the building to the main door, and take the elevator up to the middle level to the gallery.

The registration form for this show is enclosed with this newsletter. You can enter up to three framed paintings. The registration fee is $7.00 per painting or $20.00 for three. Please bring your money and the registration form to the September 20th DAAG meeting or mail it to LaVeryn Talmage by September 15th. Put title, medium, price, artist’s name and phone number on the back of the painting. Put a card with title and artist’s name on the front for identification during hanging. Please volunteer to help hang this show. We always need help.

If you sell at Driscoll, the buyer will call you, and selling arrangements should be made privately. There will be a commission of 10% of the sale to DAAG. The Driscoll Center does not charge a commission.

BOARD MEMBERS: We will be installing the new Board at the September meeting. The 2008-2009 Officers are as follows: President: Ardath Baker; Vice President: Ann Hanscom; Treasurer: Marcia Williams; Corresponding Secretary: Marion Wright; Recording Secretary: Rosemary Weiler; Membership: Sharon Hann; Exhibitions: Laveryn Talmage; Refreshments: Sally Moore; Workshops: Joyce Madden, Floy Walberg; Historian: Floy Walberg; and Webmaster: Karl Johnson.

MEMBER NEWS: We have two new members: Karyn Zimmerman and Marie Sanborn. Congratulations and welcome! Also, Ann Hanscom will be having a show from November 6th to 16th at Gallery 821 on Santa Fe Drive. The address is 821 Santa Fe Drive, and there will be a reception on Thursday, November 6th from 6:00 to 9:00. Marion Wright will have a show from September 13th to October 3rd at First Plymouth Congregational Church on the corner of S. Colorado Blvd. and Hampden. There will not be a reception.

WEBSITE: DAAG has a beautiful website but not all of the members are represented. If your work is not represented, please send Karl Johnson six photos of your work along with $25.00 and he will put your paintings on the computer for all the world to see.

WORD FOR THE DAY: “I love Rembrandt, but I find him a little stuffy. For my part I have a predillection for painting that lends joyousness to a wall.”
