DENVER ALLIED ARTS GUILD April 18, 2009
Marion Wright, Editor ____________________________________________________ GENERAL MEETING: Our General Meeting will be on April 18th, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Avenue. We are on the corner of E. Alameda and South Fairfax in Denver. We meet on the third Saturday of every month except July, August, and December. Enter through the east door on Fairfax Street and you will find us in the big room at the end of the hall. Members please bring friends to our meetings and remember to wear your nametag! If your sign-in number is called and you are wearing your nametag, you will win $5.00!! MARCH PROGRAM: Artist Peggy Atkinson gave us a demo on night scenes in watercolor. We watched as she mixed many colors on the paper to achieve the effect of light from street lights in downtown areas. She never uses black for night skies. APRIL PROGRAM: Gary Michael will give us a demonstration in oil painting. He has taught at Art Students League and in Mexico. His website is www.talk/doc@ecentral.com. He has given talks in Spanish, German, and English, and he is a former radio and TV announcer and has acted in TV commercials. He has also climbed 51 of Colorado’s 54 fourteeners. SSSSSSHHHHH! Please let us be quiet during our demos and critiques. If we talk, it is very disturbing to our guest artists. Thank you. EXHIBITS: DAAG has a beautiful show at Montview, which we hung Saturday, April 4th. We will take the show down on Sunday, May 10th. Our next show will take place at Driscoll Center at D.U. in October. This is a good place to show because there is a lot of walk-through traffic, so please start painting now. Please note that we no longer have insurance coverage for our shows. (OVER) REFRESHMENTS: Sharon Hann and Sherrie Gunnell will do refreshments for April, and Floy Walberg and LaVeryn Talmage will do them for May. CHANNEL SIX: On Friday, April 17 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., Channel Six will have its annual art preview down at their station on Bannock Street. They are inviting all artists, and it is always a good show. It’s a chance to see interesting and different work, and know that it will all be on TV very soon for others to buy. We will have two art tables this year, which is very exciting. If you plan to come, call Deborah Bruner at (303) 620-5715 by April 9. SPECIAL OCCASION: DAAG will be 50 years old in 2012!! Although that seems far away, please start thinking about what we could do to celebrate the occasion! Time is going to pass quickly. We are open to all suggestions! MEMBER NEWS: Mary Lou Rose and Tony McCrary are our newest honorary members. They are both past presidents, and we are happy to award honorary membership to them. Also, Roland Jones invited DAAG members to the coffee house “From the Grounds Up” at 2418 S. Colorado Blvd. in University Hills. Also, at “From the Grounds Up” they are looking for artists to display their art work, so contact them for more information if you are interested. (They are north of Discount Tires on S. Colorado Blvd. in University Hills, and on the east side of the street. They have coffee, tea, and delicious things to eat while their customers are enjoying the wonderful art.) We were very sad to learn that Gini Burwell passed away March 26. She was a member of DAAG at one time. Gini was 85 years old. “The only burdens that are too heavy to bear are the ones we try to carry alone.” Anonymous |
