DENVER ALLIED ARTS GUILD May 19, 2009
Marion Wright, Editor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ GENERAL MEETING: Our General Meeting will be on May 16, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Avenue. We are on the corner of E. Alameda and South Fairfax in Denver. We meet on the third Saturday of every month except July, August, and December. Enter through the east door on Fairfax Street and you will find us in the big room at the end of the hall. Members please bring friends to our meetings and remember to wear your nametag! If your sign-in number is called and you are wearing your nametag, you will win $5.00!! MAY PROGRAM: Unfortunately we were unable to meet in April because of the weather, but we are happy to announce that Gary Michael has agreed to give us a demonstration in oil painting. He had been scheduled for April, but we weren’t able to meet at that time. Gary has taught at Art Students League and in Mexico. His website is www.talk/doc@ecentral.com. He has given talks in Spanish, German, and English and he is a former radio and TV announcer and has acted in TV commercials. JUNE PROGRAM: Our June program will be a White Elephant Sale! Please bring any art supplies to sell, trade or give away that you don’t want or can’t use. The money raised can go to DAAG, or you can keep it if you wish. SSSSSHHHHHH! Please let us be quiet during our demos and critiques. Our talking is disturbing to our guest artists. Thank you. DAAG ELECTIONS: Our Nominating Committee has been hard at work finding new officers for the Board, and we will have our elections at the May meeting. The following have been nominated for positions: President: Ardath Baker; Vice President: Estelle Petitt; Treasurer: Marcia Williams; Recording Secretary: Lyle Jencsok; Corresponding Secretary: Marion Wright; Membership: Sharon Hann; Refreshments: Helen Buznedo; Historian: Ann Hanscom; Web Master: Karl Johnson. The Exhibits Committee will consist of Judy Wroblewski, Nancy Graham, and Linda Klingman. Many, many thanks to the Nominating Committee: Floy Walberg and Sharon Hann. We will install our new Board members at the June meeting. NOTE TO MEMBERS: Please pay your dues now or in June so we can get your name in the roster! Thank you!! EXHIBITS: Our next show will take place at Driscoll Center at D.U. in October. This is a good place to show because there is a lot of walk-through traffic. Please start painting now for this important exhibit. NOTE: we no longer have insurance coverage for our shows. REFRESHMENTS: Floy Walberg and LaVeryn Talmage will do refreshments in May, and Sharon Hann and Sherry Gunnell will do them in June.
MEMBER NEWS: Sixteen members donated art to the Channel Six Art Auction, so we had two tables. Channel Six appreciated our generosity so very much and sent us a note of thanks. Floy Walberg sold a painting at the Colorado Watercolor Society Show at the Colorado History Museum. Ron Hanscom is feeling much better and is now recovering at home. SPECIAL OCCASION: DAAG will be 50 years old in 2012! Please start thinking about what we could do to celebrate this most important occasion! We are open to all suggestions! We live but a fraction of our life. Why do we not let in the flood, raise the gates, And set all our wheels in motion? Henry David Thoreau |
