DENVER ALLIED ARTS GUILD September 19, 2009
Marion Wright, Editor ________________________________________________________________ Welcome back after a long, hot summer! This is the beginning of the 47th year of DAAG as an established art guild! GENERAL MEETING: Our General Meeting will be on September 19th, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Avenue. We are on the corner of E. Alameda and South Fairfax in Denver, and we meet on the third Saturday of every month except July, August, and December. Enter through the east door on Fairfax Street and you will find us in the big room at the end of the hall. Members please bring friends to our meetings and remember to wear your nametag! If your sign-in number is called and you are wearing your nametag, you will win $5.00!
SEPTEMBER PROGRAM: We are going to have a watercolor demonstration by Charles Danford, which should be very interesting. Charles has taught at Park Hill and at Windsor Gardens, and he has won many prizes for his beautiful paintings. Don’t miss this inspiring demonstration. JUNE PROGRAM: DAAG had a white elephant sale, and as usual it was most interesting to see what the members brought in to sell, barter or trade! A lot of paper, paintings, brushes, pens, and magazines changed hands, and we had a good time. SSSSSSHHHHH!! Please let us be quiet during our demos and critiques. Our talking is disturbing to our guest artists. Thank you. **SPECIAL NOTICE: The Board will be meeting immediately after the General Meeting on September 19th. DAAG ELECTIONS: The following are the new DAAG Board members: President: Ardath Baker; Vice President and Programs Chairman: Estelle Petitt; Treasurer: Marcia Williams; Recording Secretary: Lyle Jencsok; Corresponding Secretary: Marion Wright; Membership: Sharon Hann; Refreshments: Helen Buznedo; Historian: Ann Hanscom; and Web Master: Karl Johnson. The Exhibits Committee will consist of Judy Wroblewski, Nancy Graham, and Linda Klingman. NOTE TO MEMBERS: If you have not already done so, please pay your dues at the September meeting so we can put your name in the roster! Thank you!
EXHIBITS: Our next show will be at Driscoll Center at D.U. We will hang on Sunday, October 4th at 12:30, and take down Saturday, October 31st at 11:00. You can enter one or two paintings at $7.00 per painting. We will discuss this exhibit further at the September meeting. Rob Gratiot will judge this show. Nancy Graham is in charge of this exhibit. Please note: We no longer have insurance coverage for our shows. We will have an exhibit in Littleton Town Hall from November 3rd to January 5th. There will be more information about this at the September and October meetings. Judy Wroblewski is in charge of this exhibit. WORKSHOPS: Carol Reeves will be having her annual painting workshop at the Beavers in Winter Park from Thursday October 15th to Sunday, October 18th. The cost for a single room for three nights is $175.00; a double room with twin beds is $155.00 per person; and a pull-out bed is $145.00. The retreat includes three dinners with wine followed by critiques of your work. Kitchens are available for preparing your breakfasts and lunches. The Beavers is in a beautiful area with a lake nearby, and there is a lot to paint. We can paint inside if the weather is bad. There is a pool and a jacuzzi, and there may also be horses available to ride. If you are interested in this workshop, please contact Carol Reeves at (919) 384-2427 or write her at 2 Barrett’s Chapel Court, Durham, N.C. 27705. October 1st is the deadline to sign up, and please sign up soon so Carol will know how many rooms to reserve. She will be sending us directions to get to Winter Park. Evelyn Martinez is having a landscape painting workshop from September 28th through October 2. This workshop will be in Bailey, Colorado, and Evelyn will be the instructor. Outdoor color studies will be done which will be used for larger studio paintings. The cost is $395.00, and a $50.00 deposit will hold your place. If you have two friends sign up, with you as a reference, the workshop will be half price. If you are interested, contact Evelyn Martinez at (303) 919-9937, at CreateArt4U@comcast.net, or at www.EvelynValdezMartinez.com. REFRESHMENTS: Marie Sanborn and Karen Zimmerman will bring refreshments in September, and Estelle Petitt and Ardath Baker will bring them in October. In November Helen Buznedo and Marion Wright will bring refreshments. THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH: Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Ralph Waldo Emerson
