GENERAL MEETING: Welcome to the second General Meeting of DAAG in the year 2010! We are now going into our 48th year of existence! We meet on the third Saturday of every month except July, August, and December, and our meetings are at 9:30 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Avenue. The church is on the corner of Alameda and Fairfax. Come in the east door on Fairfax Street, and you will find us in the big room at the end of the hall. Members please bring friends to our meetings and remember your nametag! If your sign-in number is called and you are wearing your nametag, you will win $5.00!
NOTE: The Board will meet immediately after the General Meeting.
JANUARY PROGRAM: We had a most interesting demonstration of an a la prima oil painting by Victoria Kwasinski. She started with a painting she had worked on at home, and by the time she finished at the meeting, the painting was totally different!
FEBRUARY PROGRAM: We will have a critique by Evelyn Martinez. Members please bring one unframed painting each.
PLANNED PROGRAMS: In March we will have a demonstration by Joel Cook who will do a portrait, and he will bring his own model. In April we will have a demonstration by Jill Soukup; in May we will have a critique, and in June we usually have a White Elephant sale. There will be more information about these programs in the next newsletters.
SSSSSSSSHHHHHHH!! Please let us be quiet during our demos and critiques. Our talking is disturbing to our guest artists. Thank you.
EXHIBITS: We will have a show at Montview Presbyterian Church Saturday, March 13th to Monday, May 17th The church is at 1980 Dahlia on the corner of Montview Blvd. and Dahlia. Bring your art from 9-9:30 a.m. and we will start hanging right away. On Monday, May 17th, we will take the show down from 12:00-12:30. If you cannot pick up your work, please arrange with someone to get it for you. The fee is $7.00 per painting, and each member can bring two paintings.10% of sales go to Montview Presbyterian and 5% go to DAAG. There will be no juror and no ribbons, and paintings that sell must hang till the end of the show. Lynda Klingman will be managing this show.
THERE ARE TWO SHEETS ENCLOSED WITH YOUR NEWSLETTER. One sheet has all the information about the Montview Show. The other sheet is for the information about your paintings. Please fill this sheet out and send it and your check to Marcia Williams by February 27th, or you can bring the sheet and your check to the February 20th meeting. Be sure to put the necessary information on the back and front of your paintings.
ART BOOK SALE: Rachel Neubauer passed away last year, and Joyce Madden has her collection of art books. Joyce cannot bring the books to the General Meeting, but if you would like to know about the collection, please talk with Joyce. She is selling these books at a very low price.
DAAG MEMBER ART SHOW AT AUGUSTANA LUTHERAN CHURCH: DAAG members can now have one-person art shows at Augustana in the hall on the second floor. Please contact LaVeryn Talmage if you are interested in showing.
REFRESHMENTS: Ann Hanscom and Floy Walberg will bring refreshments to the February meeting, and Judy Wroblewski and Lyle Jencsok will do March.
NOTE: In December we moved all our food and paper supplies for refreshments out of the old metal cabinet into a closet by the door. It’s good not to have to fuss with the lock on the old cabinet any more!! The closet also has a lock, and the janitor will unlock it for us before each General Meeting, and lock it up after we leave.
WEBSITE: We need more members to put their artwork on the DAAG website. Contact Joyce Madden to have your paintings photographed to be put on the website. It costs only $25.00 for six paintings, and they will be seen by everyone looking for art. You can also contact our Webmaster Karl Johnson at karl@colorado-artist.com for more information.
RESUME BOOK: I will be bringing the resume book to each meeting. Members please check your resume and pictures in the book and make changes if you wish. Please take a resume form to be updated, and give me your new pictures, and I will put them in the book. We need to keep this book up to date because viewers like to see what we have been painting.
WORKSHOPS: Camille Scott will give an encaustic workshop on Saturday, March 13th. The exact time has not been decided upon yet, but will be either 9:00 to12:00 or 10:00 to 1:00. The workshop will be at her studio in Highlands Ranch and will cost $25.00 per person. Her address is 9896 Wycliff Drive in Highlands Ranch. Maps and directions will be provided. Camille can seat a maximum of 8 people in her studio, so sign up at the February General Meeting. (March 13th is not a DAAG meeting day.)
Let’s dare to be ourselves, for we do that better than anyone else can.
